Greetings and salutatory remarks. It’s been nearly 8 years since I’ve had a blog, but since I’m apparently still on the good side of the ground I figured this might be the Optimal Moment.
Currently I’m completing work on a nonfiction book tentatively titled Black Light: Perspectives on Mysterious Phenomena, and beginning a new–as yet untitled–novel exploring the strange, very disturbing powers of the collective unconscious, and what happens to a small American town besieged by what might be the fall of a divine darkness, a military/intelligence black-op, or perhaps something stranger far. I agree with what the great psychoanalyst Carl Jung wrote about the collective effect on humankind of spiritual despair: a sort of metaphysical craving for meaning. Our terrible anxiety and emptiness might manifest “shadows” in the so-called real world, some hostile, some helpful, but all probably absurd, terrifying and incomprehensible.
We’ll see. At any rate, I have a great excuse to knock around alone in the playground–even if it is in utter blackness.
